BRAND STORY

Timeless beauty of kimono, reimagined for the future.
Our aim is to transform beautiful Japanese kimono that are no longer worn into forms that fit modern life, so their charm and value can be enjoyed anew.

Essence of MIWA
Each MIWA piece is carefully handcrafted.
We hope you enjoy the unique colors and patterns found only in kimono—and the delight of owning something truly one-of-a-kind.

Patterns and Meanings
Every kimono pattern carries wishes and stories.
These are meaningful designs cherished in Japan for generations—there are said to be over 200 types of motifs.
Knowing the background and meanings is part of the pleasure of appreciating kimono and Japanese culture.
To enjoy kimono is, in a sense, to wear culture.
Cherishing that perspective, I hope to share it little by little through MIWA.

Tradition and Sustainability

In Japan, many kimono are discarded each year, and the kimono industry has shrunk to about 89% below its peak.
With fewer artisans and factories, Japan’s beautiful traditional techniques are at risk of being lost.
MIWA is not only a fashion brand;
we hope to become a culture that gives kimono and obi new forms and value, rediscovering their allure.
Let kimono—embodying Japanese tradition and beauty—cross eras and borders, to be carried forward in new forms into the world and into the future.
Through this brand, we want to help create that cycle.
Founder’s Voice

Satoko Minabe
Born in Gifu Prefecture, I have lived in Brazil since 2021 after an international marriage.
At first I worked as a freelancer doing marketing and PR for Japan, but living in Brazil made me want to create something precisely because I am Japanese living here. In July 2024, I started MIWA.

The “MI” in MIWA stands for beauty.
“WA” carries a double meaning: 和, representing Japanese culture and aesthetics, and 環, meaning a cycle or circle.
May Japan’s beautiful culture circulate,
take on new value, and find its way to you.
